Right, the 511 has a radiation area of ~(2) 15" woofers, so what happens when you use (4) instead of (2)? It gains ~3 dB from doubling the radiation area, so only half the power is required for a given SPL. Of more interest here though is that this extra ~3 dB lowers F3 a half octave, etc. once EQ'd., so you wind up with at least as much power handling as the single 511 (high enough levels for HIFI/HT) except with a lower usable corner frequency, or ~350 Hz. This is around a half WL of its axial length which is the point where the horn's real power band starts as opposed to its lower gain 1/4 WL pipe resonance BW.Quote:

You're welcome! It didn't look too bad, I made a thick open cell black foam 'baffle' to help with all those mouth reflections which gave them a nice recessed 'look'. Not that it mattered though, the speaker systems were hidden behind floor-ceiling acoustic screens. I've never had any WAF issues/concerns, but never have cared for the 'look' of big cinema style systems in a living room plus needed some protection from pets, kids during most of the years I had them.

Hi, I dont keep such specifics, but generally speaking the first price is the sale price in US$, the second is the at the time exchange rate conversion to AU$ for me.
That said, the bulk of my 1200+ records are from US based sellers. If there is only one price, it is usually an European or Australian based seller, denominated then in AU$
In terms ofd 311-90s, I'd wager that 1000-1200 US is probably the current market price for a good clean pair on eBay. I'd see that as fair. If i really wanted a pair, I'd swap something like a pair of 288Cs or 515Bs and be happy with the swap.
The variations in prices comes not from geographic location, but the willingness to ship worldwide.
The current money in Altec stuff is in SE Asia.
If you want the top price you must be prepared to ship there.
With something like a 515B or 288C pair it can mean an extra US$500.
I still do not understand the US aversion to international shipping. And it is an aversion, big red letters, huge warnings, cranky replies etc. It borders on obnoxious with some sellers.

I hear you on that! When I was selling amps I sold many more just because I would ship anywhere. Won a lot of grateful customers for that. Only trouble we ever had was with Latvia.
Shootz! Many US sellers won't even ship to Hawaii. And it's a US state.
